Party Themes: Planning on a Budget
How I Create Pinterest-Perfect Dog Birthday Parties (On a Budget)
This is a short post, but I really wanted to highlight it because Mia’s birthday is so important to us. Celebrating her is one of my favorite traditions, and every year I try to make it feel special without going overboard on spending.
Throwing a Pinterest-worthy dog birthday party doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated. My secret? I take inspiration from children’s birthday themes and give them a dog-friendly twist so both pups and humans can enjoy.
This year’s theme was “Two Magical”—whimsical, colorful, and full of charm. We hosted it at Garden District Taproom, which was perfect because it’s pup-friendly and easy to work with. I always look for venues with low minimum spend requirements, and having food trucks already on site is a huge bonus.
For the cake, I ordered Mia’s pup cake in advance from Small Cakes Bakery, and it was such a hit.
When it comes to décor, I keep it budget-friendly by reusing what I already have, mixing in Amazon finds and pieces from budget-friendly shopping platforms. Reusing party décor is one of my favorite tricks—and honestly, it still looks brand new every time. I’m even reusing some of this year’s decorations for my Easter hors d’oeuvres spread.
I also love supporting local small businesses whenever I can. Those little details—custom treats, thoughtful touches—are what make everything feel personal and special.
At the end of the day, it’s not about how much you spend. It’s about the small details, the love you put into it, and creating memories. You really don’t need a huge budget to throw a perfect, Pinterest-worthy party.
